Abbie Mitchell Wicker, age 94, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2026, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper.
She was born in Valdosta, Georga to Joseph and Mabel Mitchell on June 3, 1931. She often fondly remembered sitting on Granny Mitchell’s porch shelling butterbeans, simple moments that shaped her love for family and home. Abbie graduated from Hamilton County High School and worked for many years with the Department of Corrections, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. On October 14, 1954, she married Jesse Wicker, whom she met at Snyder Methodist Church in Jacksonville, and together they raised their children there.
At just 12 years old, Abbie discovered her lifelong love for the piano. Music filled her home for decades, and many remember the gentle sound of her playing before church services began. For more than 40 years, she faithfully served as a church pianist. She was a member of the Advent Christian Church in Jasper and First Presbyterian Church of Jasper for many years.
Abbie also loved sewing and took pride in doing everything well. She was outgoing, sweet, and deeply hospitable—never letting anyone leave her home hungry. She loved her family dearly and was known for warm hugs and kisses for the children.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Martin of Jasper, Florida; her sister, Estelle Reistad (Knut) of Jasper, Florida; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Wicker; her parents, Joseph and Mabel Mitchell; her son, Chuck Wicker; her brother, Clinton Mitchell; and her sister, Alphia Jo McMahon.
A graveside service will be held Friday, February 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Mitchell Family Cemetery,
