Addie Mae Smith, age 82, of Jasper, FL. passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at her home following a lengthy illness.
Addie Mae was born July 9, 1935 in Callahan, FL. to the late Gilbert Arthur Jones and Mabel Wyant Jones. She met and fell in love with Palmer Gene Smith who was a native and lifelong resident of Hamilton County. The two married June 6, 1954 and remained a steadfast duo until his death in January of 2010. Addie Mae was a faithful civil servant in Hamilton County for over 40 years, serving in the Hamilton County Clerk of Court Finance Division, Hamilton County Tax Collector's Office and concluded her career working with the Hamilton County Supervisor of Elections Office. She was blessed with a beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye that instantly made anyone she encountered smile in return. Addie Mae was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to travel the world and experience many different cultures and the beauty of the earth at its finest. Back at home she loved to worship at First Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. She was gifted with a beautiful soprano voice and was always faithful to use that gift as a coveted member of the church choir. She loved her church family and was loved in return for the beautiful spirit she carried in her heart.
Addie leaves behind her two sons, Palmer Gene Smith, Jr and his wife Annise of Jasper, FL. and Charles Arthur "Art" Smith and his husband Jesus Salgueiro, also of Jasper; her two brothers, Joseph "Buddy" Jones and his wife Annette of Mexico Beach, Fl. and Raymond Jones and his wife Diane of Sandersville, GA.; her two sisters, Evelyn Smith and her husband Franklin of Jasper, FL. and Lois Latham of Belleview, FL.; 11 grandchildren, Leslie Smith Carter, L.J. Smith, Christopher Smith, Lacee Smith, Addie E. Smith, Marsha Smith, Michelle Eaker, Angel Smith- Salgueiro, Brando Smith-Salgueiro, Zumy Smith-Salgueiro and Zuky Smith-Salgueiro; 17 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Smith and his wife Wanda and sister-in-law Brenda Hicks and her husband Sammy; numerous nieces and nephews. Her family also included the angels God sent to help care for her and help fulfill her last wish to remain at home until God called her home. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. Interment followed Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
