Obituary

Anson Curtis Johnson, age 81, of Jennings, FL. passed away on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Lake City Medical Center following a brief hospitalization.

Curtis was born in Jennings, FL. on October 28, 1939 to the late Anson M. and Edith Shiver Johnson. He was one of four children born into the Johnson family. Following graduation from Jennings High School, Curtis served his country in the United States Army. Later he went to work as an engineer with the Gold Kist (now ADM) Railroad line in Valdosta, GA. When he retired from the railroad he tinkered with things around the farm in Jennings until he decided he would go to work in Jasper at the Hamilton County Land Fill. He was a tractor enthusiast and bought more than one old Farmall tractor for restoration. He enjoyed taking these restored beauties to the shows for others to enjoy. He loved the fellowship with the others in the tractor club and anyone that knew Curtis, knew him to be quite a character with his dry sense of humor. Curtis looked forward every year to the cane grinding festivities held out at the Johnson farm. In 2020, he found his son and grandson taking particular interest in the art of making syrup and when ask how you know when to move to the next step, Curtis just laughed and said "It's a feeling son… you just know", and treasured memories were made. Curtis loved his family deeply. His brother and sisters loved to gather and laugh and tell stories of way back when. While his family is grieving the loss, they know that he had made preparation for his eternity in heaven. Curtis was raised in the church and was given a firm foundation on which to build. He was a longtime member at Burnham Christian Church near Jennings where he taught the Senior Sunday School Class. Curtis was also active in the jail ministry and several devotion and prayer circles in Valdosta. His faith was strong enough to know that when he closed his eyes for the last time on this earth, he would open them again in heaven and be welcomed by his Lord and his beautiful wife, Elaine Smith Johnson who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son, Anson Curtis "Curt" Johnson, Jr. and his wife Rebecca Gay Johnson of Valdosta, GA.; his daughter, Mitzi Johnson Boutwell and her husband Bryan also of Valdosta, GA.; one brother, Alfred Johnson of Macclenny, FL.; two sisters, Francis Johnson Nicholson of Lake City, FL. and Sybil Johnson Allen and her husband Everal of Jennings, FL.; four grandchildren, Tyler, Dustin, Parker and Sarah.
