IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Arlene Grace
Gain
January 17, 1938 – May 5, 2023
Arlene Grace Miller Gain, of Jennings, FL. passed away on May 5, 2023 at her home following a lengthy illness. Arlene was 85 years young.
Arlene was born in Abington, Pennsylvania to the late Orville and Agnes Hoffman Miller. She met the love of her life while working at Willow Grove Park; she saw him and thought "I've got to meet him!" She not only met him, she married him! She was married to Robert William Gain, Sr. for 65 years until his death in August of 2021. Together they raised four sons and two daughters and as "Nanny" and "Pop-Pop" they enjoyed spending time with their 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild. The couple set out on an adventure, moving from PA to Pinellas Park, FL. While raising six children, Nanny also lovingly cared for friends' and neighbors' children in her home. When her children were grown, they embarked on another adventure, traveling across the country together while Pop-Pop expanded his trucking career. During this time, they found their little piece of heaven on an 80-acre lake. They worked tirelessly on weekends preparing the property for their retirement. Their grown kids and grandchildren would come and help, camping out while doing so. This has become a tradition, especially at Easter, where upwards of 45 family members come and share bonfires, kick-the-can and best of all, just being together. Oh! The stories told around the bonfire!! Their eventual and final move to Jennings, FL complimented their love of the outdoors, fishing and gardening.
Arlene was all about family and family gatherings. Holidays were a special time when all the family would come together and celebrate. Arlene enjoyed researching family history, cooking for family and working in her beautiful gardens. She loved going to dance recitals, kart races and ball games. A patriot to the tee, she supported and gave to veteran organizations for decades including being a 28-year honorary member of Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Her evenings were spent sitting on her bench swing enjoying the lake view, listening to the sound of her ugly fish fountain and watching the American flag flying in all its beauty.
Although Nanny was just a wisp of a woman, she packed a punch! All her kids & grandkids knew when "Nanny said…." that there was no more discussion.
Nanny & Pop-Pop had a lot of good times, but also shared some sad times when they suffered the loss of their two sons Steven Gain and Charles Gain Sr. and her brother, Ed Miller.
She is survived by her children:
two sons, Robert William Gain, Jr. (Jackie) from Bella Vista, AR and Richard Keith Gain Sr. (Debbie) from Valdosta, GA; her two daughters, Cherie Ann Gain Cunningham (Charles) from Canton, GA and Carol Lynn Gain-Towe from Pinellas Park, FL; her brother, Allen Milton Miller, from New Jersey; 13 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
