Obituary

Becky Jo Adams, 83, died peacefully on June 21, 2024, at the Haven Suwannee Valley Hospice Care Center in Lake City, Fl after a long battle with cancer.  She enjoyed the last few months of her life on the family farm at the barn of her son; now renamed "Becky's Barn."  She cherished the frequent visits of family, friends, and daily lunch with the farm crew.

Becky Jo was born on October 21, 1940, at home on the family farm in Jasper, FL, most commonly known as Crossroads in Hamilton County.  After losing her mother at a very young age, she and her brother Harrell would spend some of their growing up years visiting aunts and uncles. She shared so many fond memories that created a strong bond between Becky Jo and her cousins.  She attended high school in Jennings, Fl.  She and her classmates fundraised and published one of the first yearbooks for Jennings High School.

Becky Jo married the love of her life, Dennis Cato Adams, in 1960.  After working in the tobacco fields, hoeing peanuts, or picking up roots; she would tell her brother, "I will never marry a farmer."  Yet farming was part of her soul.  She loved the life she and Dennis created on the family farm raising their three children.  You could regularly find Becky Jo sporting around new friends on the farm, sharing the bounty from the field and bragging on her son.

Becky Jo dedicated 31 years of her life to serving Hamilton County as a school teacher in Jennings.  She held fond memories of these years and always enjoyed meeting her former students and learning of all their successes.

Becky Jo had a servant's heart and was a faithful, lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church in Jennings, FL.  She served as the Director for Women's on Mission (WMU) for New Hope for over 25 years, leading women's groups and Girls in Action.  She has enjoyed working along beside Brother Decar Scaff with the bus ministry.

After the passing of her husband, Becky Jo retired and focused her attention on missions; leading people through service to Jesus Christ.  She came along beside her cousins, Henry and Francis Zittrower, in their ministry; Living Water 4 Roatan.  She was a founding board member, traveled to Roatan on mission trips, and helped with fundraising.  Locally, Becky Jo focused her mission work with Samaritan's Purse – Operation Christmas Child.  Becky Jo was recently recognized from this Franklin Graham Ministry for her 20 years of service.  She and the team of "Shoe Box Ladies" at New Hope packed over 14,000 boxes.  She not only organized the packing, she also served the region for the annual shoe box collection as well as traveled to Atlanta.

Becky Jo spun many "Apples of Gold" in her lifetime among her family, friends, students, and her beloved church family.  They showered her with so much love and assistance over the last few years while she was battling cancer.

Becky Jo is survived by her much loved son, Mike (Jill) Adams and their children, Seth (Morgan) and Sarabeth Adams; her Daughter in Law, Dawn (Mike) Adams Combass and their children, Ragan (Johnathon) Carnley and Dawson Adams; her daughter Anjanette Radney and granddaughter Jordyn Radney; her great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Preston and Easton Carnley; her brothers, Harrell (Patricia) Tyree and Timmy Tyree; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
