Obituary

Betty Laura Brown
May 15, 1951 – November 22, 2025
Betty Laura Brown passed away on November 22, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

Born in Owasso, Alabama, to Edward Colbert and Bertha Joyce, Betty shared 25 beautiful years of devoted marriage with her husband, Thomas Brown. A proud elder of the Poarch Creek Indian Tribe, she carried her heritage with dignity, strength, and deep pride throughout her life.
Betty loved the outdoors and found her greatest joy on the water. An avid fisher with a natural gift, she could out-fish anyone who cast a line beside her. She treasured her time spent fishing with the Georgia Boys Fishing Club, where lifelong friendships were built and many stories were made.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Brown; her children Donald "Buddy" Dorminey Jr., Walter Dorminey, Thomas Daniel Brown (Jessica), Jerry A. Finney (Summer), Stephanie Chance (Kenneth), and Patricia Lynn Giddens; her brothers James Colbert and Ronnie Colbert; and her sister Theresa Adams. She leaves behind many cherished grandchildren, one precious great-grandchild, and countless friends who became family along the way. Among them, she held a special closeness with Keith Hodge, Jackie Simpson, and Jerry Palmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Colbert and Bertha Joyce.

A memorial service will be held at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home on November 26, 2025 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in honor of Betty's memory.

May her spirit forever rest on peaceful waters, where the fish always bite and the sun always warms her face.
