Obituary

Cathryn "Cathy" Newsome Douglas, 53, went home to be with the Lord in the late hours of August 11, 2025, after a long and courageous health battle.

Born and raised in Lowndes County, Cathy later married the love of her life, Lewis "Ed" Douglas, and together they made their home in Stockton, Georgia. For 35 years, they built a beautiful life, raising their two sons and sharing countless cherished moments.

There were four things Cathy loved most in this world—teaching, her two boys, the Georgia Bulldogs, and her church family at Jennings Church of Christ, where she had been a faithful member for the past 10 years. She earned her master's degree in education and spent more than 20 years teaching in schools throughout the South Georgia school system. Teaching was not just her career but her calling, and she poured her heart into inspiring and guiding her students.

Cathy is survived by her devoted husband, Lewis "Ed" Douglas; her sons, Caleb (Elizabeth "Liz") Douglas and Eli (Ashley) Douglas; her mother, Faye Cason Newsome; her sister, Angie Newsome Calvert; her nephews, Nathan and Seth Calvert; and her brother-in-law, Jody Calvert. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Asa Candler "Pete" Newsome.

A graveside service honoring Cathy's life will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, 2922 NW 76th Terrace, Jennings, Florida 32053, on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m.

Cathy will be remembered for her unwavering faith, deep love for her family, and the lasting impact she made in the lives of her students and community. Her legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in all who knew her.
