Charles Hanson Jones, age 84, of Jasper, FL. passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center. Charles was born October 31, 1926 in Adel, Georgia to the late Turner and Ruby McDaniel Jones. He was a longtime resident of Jasper where he built Mike's Grocery Store also known as Mike's Red and White and later as Mike's IGA. Charles served for a time on the Jasper City Council and was former President of the Hamilton County Industrial Authority. Mr. Jones was instrumental in bringing Hamilton Correctional to Jasper and he was a faithful member of the Jasper Lyons Club and Jasper First United Methodist Church. Charles was also served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Earline McDonald Jones.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barbara Jones, Jasper, FL.; one daughter, Kim Jones, Hendersonville, TN; one sister, Margaret Lynn, Adel, GA.; two grandchildren, Michelana Byrd (Chris) and Shawn Jones (Beth); five great grandchildren, Caitlin Jones, Colton Jones, Chase Jones, Mikayla Byrd and Cassidy Byrd.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at Jasper First United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, FL.
