Charlotte was born on May 6, 1946, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late James Benjamin Brown & Eloise Carr Brown. She met Gary Strickland, the love of her life, when they were both students at the University of Georgia. They were married in 1967 and eventually moved to their farm in Echols County where she has lived for the last 32 years.
Charlotte received a Bachelor of Science in Ministry Education from Luther Rice Seminary, a Master of Education from Valdosta State College and an Educational Specialist from Nova Southeastern University. She taught school in Bradenton, Florida and at Open Bible in Valdosta prior to her teaching in the Echols County School System. She loved children and was very dedicated to helping them reach their full potential. She was extremely creative and loved working with children in Sunday school and in Vacation Bible School. She became like a grandmother to her friend's grandchildren and they all loved her dearly. She was always looking for craft ideas and activities for them to enjoy when they would come to visit their bonus grandmother.
Charlotte taught and hosted a Wednesday night Bible Study Class in her home for the past 3 years. She enjoyed working in her yard and taking care of her cows and her miniature donkeys. She also loved going to estate sales, to thrift stores with a cause and spending Christmas in Destin.
In her last days, she spoke fondly of close friends that she loved and would reminisce of special memories she had shared with them. She talked about Gene Walters & Debbie, Willie Walters and Jennifer Walters and their families, Doug & Trish Whitaker, Pat Strickland, Rodney & Kathy Strickland, Larry & Jeanie Allen, Julie Doss and Catalina Cain.
Charlotte is now at peace and has no more pain and no more suffering. Her leaving has left a huge hole in our hearts but we know she and Gary will be watching over us! As her sister said, she will be spending this Christmas with Jesus!
