Obituary

Christine Ryals Hinton, age 89, of Carrabelle, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 15, 1935, in Castleberry, Alabama, Christine was the treasured daughter of Lawrence and Laura (Downing) Ryals, and the only daughter among six children.

Christine was the beloved wife of the late David Conrad Hinton of 45 years. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. She was the devoted mother of three children—Thomas M. Crook of Aiken, SC, Helen Breier (Ken) of Duluth, GA, and Jayne Messer (Herbert) of Carrabelle, FL. Three stepsons, David Hinton, III (Tammy), Chris Hinton (Jennifer) and Mike Hinton (Genia) along with many 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy.

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity. Christine was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her brothers Marvin, Lloyd, Curtis, Floyd, and Lawrence, along with her precious angel, Benjamin Campbell.

Christine dedicated much of her life to education, serving as a media specialist at Franklin County School. She had a deep passion for learning and a gift for inspiring students and colleagues alike. Her quiet strength and steady presence made a lasting impact on all who knew her.

She was a huge inspiration to witness her journey through education achieving a Masters from Florida State University. She would travel 3 hours round trip to attain her degree after working a long day at Carrabelle School.

A talented and devoted quilter, Christine was a proud member of the Wandering Star Quilting Club in Lanark Village. Her intricate and heartfelt creations reflected the love and care she poured into every aspect of her life. Through quilting, she found both expression and community, contributing to local events. She was on the board for Carrabelle Library and assisted with the History Museum where personal family heirlooms are displayed today.

Christine's legacy is one of compassion, creativity, and service. She gave selflessly to her community and embraced every opportunity to support and uplift those around her. Whether in the classroom, at the quilting table, or with her family, Christine's love was always evident—steadfast, sincere, and unconditional.

A celebration of Christine's life will be held at Harry T Reid Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 16. Viewing will take place at 10:00am with interment to follow at 11:00am at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a school library, quilting group, or local charity in Christine's memory.

Her life was a beautiful tapestry of faith, family, and care—one that will continue to warm the hearts of all who knew her.
