Darwin Gene Wood

Darwin "Gene" Wood passed away on October 23, 2026.

He was born on February 6, 1957, in Houston, Texas, to Reverend W.C. Wood and Rheda Wood.

Gene loved reading and spending time outdoors. He enjoyed growing a garden every year, fishing, and hunting. In his younger years, he played bass in local bands with his brother, J.R. Wood. He also enjoyed cooking and grilling and was very good at both. Darwin had a special love for his two dogs, Jeb and Ruby, who brought him much happiness.

Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Jennifer Drury, and his brothers, Bruce Wood, Jerry Wood, Timmy Wood, and David Wood.

He is survived by his brother, J.R. Wood (Liz); his stepdaughter, Tonya Ingram; his companion, Dena Stamps; his special nephew, Charlie Wood; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Per Gene’s request, he will be cremated. A small service will be held at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman, Georgia.
