David Lamar Franklin, 79, of Jasper, FL died on July 1, 2023 at home after a lengthy illness.
David was born in Fort Pierce, FL to the late Reverend Doyle Franklin and Alma Clark Franklin on
March 13, 1944. David began his lifelong career with the Florida Department of Corrections at Arcadia
Correctional Institution. He then transferred to Hillsborough C.I. where he oversaw their K9 unit. He worked at Mayo CI. In 1987, he and his family moved to Hamilton County, Florida where David was promoted to Major. While at Hamilton C.I., David rose to the ranks of Colonel and then finally, Assistant Warden of Hamilton C.I., a position he held until he retired after serving a total 31 years with the Department of
Corrections. In his spare time, David was a fisherman and even fished many local bass tournaments. He also
enjoyed whittling his own homemade fishing lures.
David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Cheryl Franklin, his 2 children, Darryl Franklin and
Kristy (Travis) Williams. Four grandchildren: Jason, Kandace, Kori and Taylor and one great-grandchild,
Karmyn Lee. He is also survived by his sister, Eloise Green (Perry, FL) and a host of nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 11:30 am with Brothers Pat Chewning
and Johnnie Philman officiating.
