Obituary

Deloris Watson, affectionately known as "Mrs. Dee," peacefully passed away on December 9, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love and warm hospitality that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Mrs. Dee was born on January 24, 1936, to Zack Andrews and Callie Hamilton, She was a remarkable individual who dedicated her life to the culinary arts and the joy of bringing people together through her love of cooking and baking. Alongside her beloved husband, William "Bill" Watson, she began a remarkable journey, owning and managing around a dozen restaurants throughout their lives. Their adventure began in Jacksonville, Florida, where they established a successful legacy with their Super Burger Restaurants and Captain Cooks Restaurants.

In 1982, after years of hard work and dedication, Mrs. Dee and Bill decided to "retire" to peaceful Hamilton County, Florida. However, retirement did not mean stepping away from their passion for food and hospitality. They opened Captain Cooks in Live Oak, Florida, as well as another in Jasper, Florida.  Mrs. Dee's cooking was a source of joy for countless individuals who had the privilege of tasting her dishes. Even after her retirement from the restaurant business, Mrs, Dee continued to share her talents with her community. She became famous for her cakes, known for their unbeatable taste and moist perfection. Friends, family, and acquaintances from nearby towns would eagerly place their orders for special occasions, holidays, and gatherings, savoring each bite.

"Mrs. Dee" is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William "Bill" Watson. She is survived by her son, William "Ted" McMullen (Georgie) of Live Oak, FL, and her daughter, Teena Medearis (Kenny) of Jasper. She leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Eric Embry, Zack Medearis, and Melissa Thomas, as well as nine great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life. Deloris also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

A funeral service to honor the life of Deloris "Mrs. Dee" Watson will be held on Wednesday, December 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Grove Methodist Church in Pinetta, Florida, with a visitation just before the service at 10:00.
