Donald Clyde “Fishman” Crews, age 73, passed away peacefully at his residence on March 10, 2026, leaving behind many cherished memories with the family and friends who loved him.

Donald proudly served his country as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Marine Corps beginning in 1969. He carried the Marine motto, Semper Fi, with him throughout his life. Following his military service, Donald spent more than 30 years in Anchorage, Alaska, working in commercial fishing on the Bering Sea as a deckhand, cook, and co-captain.

He was well known for his love of hunting, fishing, and spending time on the water, which earned him the nickname “Fishman.” Being outdoors and on the boat was where he was happiest. Donald also had a special love for dogs and cared deeply for many throughout his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo Stafford and Clyde Crews; his brother, Darryl Crews; and two lifelong friends who were like family to him, Old Man Ben Henderson and Benny Henderson.

Donald is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Crews; his sisters, Jacquelyn Crews Fuller (Barney), Jennifer Crews Hand (Kenneth), and Janice Crews Nelson (John); and his brother, Daniel Crews (Jessie).

Those who became family to him many years ago include Ben and Laurie Henderson; Lee and Jessica Padgett; Shelby Crosby (Colton); Brittany Henderson; Alonzo Padgett; Jorden Padgett; and Conner Padgett.

Donald will be remembered for his service to his country, his love of the outdoors, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church (Boney Bluff) Cemetery in Echols County.
