IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Doris
Markland
April 19, 1924 – March 6, 2019
Doris Peters Markland passed away at the age of 94 on March 6, 2019 at Lake Park of Madison Nursing Center in Madison, FL. following a brief illness.
Doris was born on April 19, 1924 in Griswold, Iowa and was one of seven children born to the late Roy and Iva Miller Peters. She was raised during hard times and in November of 1943, at the age of 19 Doris enlisted in the United States Navy "WAVES" (Women Accepted for Voluntary Service) and represented her country proudly until June of 1946. Doris worked for the State of Florida for a time but then owned and operated her own restaurant. She was active in her church as long as her health permitted. Doris enjoyed participating in her local Lyon's Club and the VFW. She would live a lifetime never regretting the decision to join the Navy for it was during that time that she met her husband Robert "Bob" Markland. The two never had children of their own but shared the highs and lows of their many nieces and nephews. Doris was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her sisters, Marjorie and Kay and brothers, Lee and Paul.
She is survived by her brother Bob Peters and her sister Ruby Carl both of Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews some of which include the Plain family in Madison County and the McCulley family in Hamilton County.
Doris made peace with the world and requested that she be cremated.
At her request there will be no formal services.
