Elizabeth "Betty Jane" Ward Mitchell, age 82, of Jasper, Florida, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center after a brief stay.

Elizabeth was best known as "BJ".  She was born and raised in Live Oak, Florida, and met and married Clinton Mitchell of Jasper in 1957.  Together they raised four girls on the farm.  Betty Jane loved cooking, entertaining, fishing, Dekle Beach, and her grandchildren.  She also loved playing bridge with her many friends and never turned down a poker game.  Betty Jane has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jasper since her marriage to Clinton.  She was born July 13, 1939 to Eddie and Vera Ward.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clinton, and her brother, Eddie C. Ward.

Survivors include her four daughters, Cathy Hall (Jay) of Jasper, FL., Amy Mayhew (Geno) of Baker, FL., Julie Bedsole (Jaye) and Emily Boswell (James Pate), all of Jasper, FL.; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The last years of her life were spent lounging on the carport watching her hummingbirds and squirrels.  Company was always welcome.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Mitchell Cemetery in Jasper near the family homestead with Bro. Roger Hutto officiating.

There will be no formal visitation.
