Elvie Lee Gay, age 98, of Jasper, FL. passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, FL. following an extended illness.
Elvie was born in Colquitt, Georgia on September 8, 1920 to the late J.W. and Rosa Lee Langley Hancock. She met and married Ralph A. Gay (Sr.) and started a family. Before long World War II and the Navy called his name and she was left with three small children to care for. Upon his return they worked hard. He joined up with Florida Power and she raised the children. Elvie always had a green thumb and enjoyed working in the yard. They made their home in Panama City, FL. before moving to Hamilton County. The two shared 63 years together before his passing in May of 2000. Elvie was a faithful member of Bright Pond Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Survivors include their three children, Ralph A. Gay, Jr. and his wife Sharon Bembry Gay of Jasper, FL., Ms. Joyce Formby of Naples, FL. and Betty Sue Farnbach of Lake Butler, FL.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bright Pond Baptist Church or to Suwannee Valley Nursing Center.
