Obituary

Eugene Neal Rowe, Sr., age 73, of Jasper, FL, passed away after a lengthy illness on April 29, 2025.  Born on July 4, 1951, in Saluda, South Carolina to Buster and Bertha Rowe, Eugene, or "Big Gene", as he was affectionately known, was a well-regarded member of the Jasper community.  Eugene left home at an early age to serve in the Peace Corps, where he learned his trade as a mechanic.  He later worked for the Hamilton County Road Department before retiring.

Eugene's greatest joy in life was his family.  He loved spending time with his son and, together with his wife, caring for his daughter.  Eugene gained and gave a tremendous amount of love and joy in spending time with his grandchildren.  He also took time every day to make "his rounds" as he called it, around town and could often be found at the parts house and the bank, making coffee, or at the grocery store, "keeping them straight," as he liked to say.  He was also known for his huge smile, great booming laugh, and always wore overalls wherever he went.

Eugene is survived by his wife, Georgie Lee Amerson, with whom he celebrated 55 years of love, laughter, and happiness; his son, Eugene Neal Rowe, Jr. (Sherry) of Lake Park, GA; his daughter, Georgie Ann Rowe, of Jasper, FL;  and his grandchildren, Kaiden Milo Neeley (Madison) of Las Vegas, NV, Hughston Parker George (Chelsie) of Lake Park, GA, Emilee Ann Rowe (C.J.) of Lake Park, and Victoria Grace Rowe, also of Lake Park.  Eugene is also survived by an adopted son, James Pittman (Dawn) of Jennings, FL; an adopted grandson, Bryan Czarniak (Kristy) and their children, Johnathan Rowe, Bryan "Little B" Czarniak, and Braxten Czarniak, all of Lake Park, GA; his brothers, Johnny Rowe (Patricia) of Jennings, FL and Mark Rowe (Linda) of Greenwood, South Carolina; and  his sisters, Annie Maude Cockrell of Las Vegas, Nevada and Rosemary Rowe of Greenwood, SC.  Eugene was preceded in death by his father, Buster Rockefeller Rowe and his mother, Bertha Guyton Rowe, both of Saluda, South Carolina and a brother, Luke Rowe.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  Afterwards, a celebration of life will be held at the family's home, located at 338 Amerson Avenue, Jasper, FL for which Jerome Carter will officate.  All those who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
