Eva Cantey, age 80, of Statenville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at her home following a brief illness. Eva was born in Schwerin Mecklenburg, Germany to the late Otto and Francisca Rettich. She met and married Heyward Cantey and together they made their home in Statenville until his death in 2007. Eva was the co-owner and operator of a pet store in Valdosta for many years. She loved animals and was known to have had many in her care over the years when others did not have the time or love that it took to take care of them. Eva was preceded in death by her husband Heyward Cantey and a granddaughter, Sonja.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Lori Cantey of Statenville; one grandson, Robert Dave Cantey and his wife Christina; a step granddaughter, Jerri Parmer; three grandchildren, Sonja Cantey, Landon Cantey and Ellie Cantey.

Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014 at Wayfare Cemetery near Statenville with Rev. Sammy Reeves officiating.
