đ Evan Clarke Howell â¤ď¸
Our Forever Superhero â¤ď¸âď¸đ
Evan Clarke Howell, our beloved son and Forever Superhero, passed away on April 23, 2026, at the age of 17 after a courageous journey with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) and the many complications that followed at UF Health Shands Childrenâs Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Throughout every step of his journey, Evanâs unwavering faith in God gave him strength, peace, and hope.
Born on March 17, 2009, at Smith Northview Hospital in Valdosta, Georgia, Evan was the precious son of Clarke and Joy Howell and the cherished brother of Rachel Howell.Â
Evan was the kind of child who changed every life he touched. He had the sweetest heart, the gentlest spirit, and a smile that could light up any room. His quiet strength, innocence, and deep capacity to love left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Above all, Evan loved God with all his heart and found comfort in knowing that the Lord was always with him.Â
Evan attended Suwannee Elementary School in Live Oak, Florida, through the fourth grade. At that time, our family made the decision to homeschool him through Howell Preparatory Schoolâa choice that became one of the greatest blessings of his life. In a learning environment tailored to his unique strengths, Evan flourished academically and grew into a confident and capable student.Â
At the time of his passing, Evan was a tenth-grade student with a 4.0 GPA. He excelled in his coursework, including AP classes, and especially enjoyed Pre-Engineering, Classical Music, and Classical Art.Â
Evan dreamed of attending college to study Film and Video Production. Inspired by his favorite actor, Tom Holland, and the creative genius of Stan Lee, he hoped to one day write, direct, and produce his own superhero movie.Â
Evan loved all things superheroâespecially Spider-Man and the Avengersâas well as Super Mario, Sonic, Zelda, and Transformers, and anything that sparked fun and imagination. These heroes reflected so much of who Evan truly was. He was brave when life was hard, strong when his body was weak, and courageous beyond words. Even during his battle with leukemia, Evan faced every challenge with remarkable strength and resilience, trusting God to carry him through the hardest days. His courage and faith inspired his family, friends, the community, and his entire medical team.Â
During his time at UF Health Shands, the Streetlight volunteersâHunter, Ethan, Anna, Emily, Alex, and so many othersâbrought Evan immeasurable joy and became a very special part of his journey. Whether they were playing Mario Kart on the Nintendo, talking about Transformers movies, or watching stop-motion videos on YouTube, they gave him friendship, laughter, and precious moments of normalcy during the most difficult days. After long and exhausting treatments, Evanâs eyes would light up whenever they walked into his room. Their kindness, compassion, and willingness to simply spend time with Evan created memories that our family will cherish forever.
Beyond his incredible bravery, Evan found joy in lifeâs simple pleasures. He loved browsing Amazon and eagerly waiting for packages to arrive at the front door. He looked forward to favorite meals from Chick-fil-A, Zaxbyâs, and Little Caesars. He treasured spending time with his family, watching his favorite movie (Spider-Man: No Way Home), playing games (The Legend of Zelda), playing with the family dogs, and loving on his precious kitten, Pumpkin. He had a special way of making others feel loved simply by being himself. God blessed Evan with one of the biggest and most loving hearts.Â
During the final seven months of his life, Evanâs faith in God grew even stronger. He often talked about God, Heaven, and the Lordâs love, finding comfort and peace in knowing that Jesus was always by his side. His quiet but steadfast faith became a source of strength not only for himself, but for his entire family. Evan taught his family lessons that will remain forever in their heartsâhow to love more deeply, how to cherish each moment, and how faith in God can sustain us through lifeâs most difficult days. His life was a testimony of unconditional love, perseverance, hope, and the peace that comes from trusting in the Lord.
He is survived by his loving parents, Clarke and Joy Howell; his devoted sister, Rachel Howell; his paternal grandparents, Rick and Delores (Marable) Howell of Jasper, Florida; and many extended family members, friends, teachers, and a community who loved him deeply. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Betty (Holton) Scarbrough of Jasper, Florida.
A Celebration of Life honoring Evan will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the Hamilton County Annex Auditorium in Jasper, Florida. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., the family will welcome relatives and friends for a time of visitation and fellowship, during which guests are invited to view a special slideshow celebrating Evanâs beautiful life and the precious memories made throughout his 17 years. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 3:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to wear bright superhero colors (red, white, or blue) in honor of Evanâs courageous spirit and the joy he brought to the world.Â
Though his earthly journey was far too short, Evanâs love, courage, beautiful spirit, and steadfast faith in God will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him. We find peace in knowing that he is now healed, whole, and safely in the presence of his Savior. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Evan by sharing kindness, showing courage, and loving others wellâjust as he did every day. We also encourage those who are able to consider donating blood, platelets, or granulocytes (white blood cells) to help children and adults fighting cancer and other serious illnesses. As an O-negative patient, Evan often depended on these lifesaving donations, and at times there was a limited supply. Your donation could become a precious gift of hope and life to another family walking a similar journey. Always Strong. Always Brave. Always Full of Love. Our Forever Superhero. We Love You 3000. â¤ď¸âď¸đ âI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.â â Philippians 4:13
