Florence Selph Gornto, known to all who loved her as Flo, passed away at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Georgia on March 17 th , 2014. Flo is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Cecil Gornto.
Flo is lovingly remembered by son, Steve Gornto (Carol), of Watkinsville, Georgia and daughter Pam Brand (Buddy) of Braselton, Georgia. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Will Brand (Dori), James Brand (Maggie), Sara Brand, and Nathan Gornto and her great-grandchildren Beau and Paige Brand. She leaves behind siblings Mildred Murphy, Durwood Selph, Etheridge Selph, and Shirley Roberson and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flo was born in Nocatee, FL November 2, 1924. A long-time resident of Hamilton County, she married Cecil Gornto on April 15, 1950. Together they raised their two children, moving from Jacksonville, FL to Columbus, GA., Oklahoma City, OK, Baltimore, MD, and back to Columbus. Flo took these moves in stride and made friends wherever she went. Cecil and Flo retired to Jasper.
In retirement, Flo enjoyed her work as cashier for the Hamilton County School System and was an officer of the Regional Food Service Association. She was a wonderful cook and talented seamstress and enjoyed being around family and friends. She never met a stranger and had a big heart. She will be greatly missed by all who love her.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 21, 2014 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Brown offciating. Interment followed at Live Oak City Cemetery.
