Garland Franklin Carter, of Echols County, Georgia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Garland celebrated his 95th birthday on May 19th. He was born in Lowndes County, Georgia in 1928, to the late Jesse B. and Mary E. Spivey Carter. He could not be considered a boastful man in any way but his life was blessed and he knew it. He was blessed to have lived out seventy years with the love of his life, Jewell and the two of them shared the love of four beautiful and dedicated daughters. Garland graduated from Echols County High School in 1947. In October of 1948 he reported for duty with the United States Army in Columbus, GA. He served his country honorably, returning with several service medals including three Bronze Service Stars. Upon discharge he returned to his Georgia roots and married Ms. Jewell Strickland of Echols County and it was there that they made their home and raised their children.

Garland retired from the accounting department at Occidental Chemical Company (PCS/Nutrien) in White Springs. He loved fishing the local lakes and rivers in South Georgia and North Florida and perhaps a creek or two between Statenville and the Okefenokee Swamp. He was an avid reader and the Bible was his favorite. Garland served as deacon and was a faithful church member at Macedonia Baptist Church for many years. Garland enjoyed being outdoors and gardening as long as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Mary Carter and his brother, Jesse "Edwin" Carter.

Carter; his four daughters, Lydia Sue Lane (Larry) of Brunswick, GA., Peggy Charlene Kosater (Gerry) of Forsyth, GA., Patricia Ann Crook (Chris) of Brunswick, GA. and Rebecca Gail Corbett (John) of Lake Park, GA.; his brother Neil Carter (Yvonne) of Opelika, Alabama and his sister-in-law, Betty Carter of Perry, GA.; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
