Gary Michael Morgan, age 67, of Jasper, FL. passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2016 at his home following an early morning house fire.
Services were held Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Corinth Baptist Church located at 7042 SW 41st Ave, Jasper, FL. 32052
Per his longtime request, he will be laid to rest at Antioch Cemetery at a later date.
Gary was born in Suwannee County, FL. on January 8, 1948 to the late Ronald K. and Myrtie Allen Morgan. He was a graduate of Suwannee County High School and soon after high school joined the United States Air Force. Upon return from the service Gary was employed as a supervisor at Gold Kist in Live Oak. When he left Gold Kist he found his niche working at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home serving families. The time came for him to give up middle of the night removals and weekend funerals and he went to work in the pest control business until he retired. Following in the footsteps of his parents, Gary dearly loved living on the family farm in Hamilton County. He could be found any afternoon on the lawnmower cutting grass just because he loved to see everything looking nice and trim or in secret just giving the grandchildren a driving lesson. He learned early on in life how to climb the riverbank and loved nothing better than sitting on a quiet riverbank listening to the river roll by and like his mother, he loved to catch catfish. This was a tradition worthy of passing down to his children and grandchildren. He was not unselfish with his time and recently shared many grueling days at Shands with his nephew Jonathan and was beyond proud to see Jonathan receive his new kidney. When he was not with Jonathan he would volunteer at the Lake City VA Hospital. Gary was an ordained deacon and member of the Masonic Lodge. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald and Myrtie Morgan and his only brother, David Morgan.
Survivors include his daughter, Dee Anne Morgan Wheeler of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.; his son Gary Michael Morgan, Jr. and his wife Heather of Jasper, FL.; his sister, Priscilla Morgan Rye and her husband James, Jasper, FL.; sister-in-law, LeNelle Morgan of Live Oak, FL.; four grandchildren, Ella, Matthew, Anna and Addie. He remained close to and is survived by his first wife and the mother of his children, Martha Butler and her husband Bill of Jennings, FL. Numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins who dearly loved him also survive.
Memorial contributions may be made to Corinth Baptist Church.
Harry T. Reid Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
