Gaye Buchanan, aged 97, ended her journey here on earth on March 23, 2011, at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, Florida. She was born March 14, 1914, in Morganton, Georgia, the sixth child of Luther and Nola Bowers.
Gaye was preceded in death by her father, her mother, four sisters, three brothers, one son (Jehoiada Buchanan), and two grandsons (Phillip Blair and Brandon Buchanan).
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Buchanan and wife, Betty, and Wilson Buchanan and wife, Carolyn; two daughters, Carol Blair and husband, Billy and Debbie Ragans and husband, Gerald; daughter-in-law, Lisa Buchanan; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Gaye devoted her life to her family. She was a student of the Bible and loved singing and listening to gospel music. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Lizella, Georgia, where she taught bible study classes. She worked in various occupations throughout her life and retired as a supervisor from Tenneco Oil Company. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, and quilting.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 26, 2011 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Wright officiating.
Interment followed at Burnham Christian Church Cemetery
