George Talmadge Sandlin, Sr., age 80, of Lake Park, Georgia passed away early Wednesday, December 16, 2009. The Echols County, Georgia native was born to the late Joe and Cuba Carter Sandlin. He owned and operated Sandlin's Garage and Deerwood Grocery in Lake Park, Georgia for over 50 years. Mr. Sandlin served as a police officer and retired as Chief of Police in Lake Park, Georgia, after serving for 25 years. Mr. Sandlin also retired from the Lowndes County Board of Education serving as a school bus driver. Mr. Sandlin was a member of Lake Park Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Gilliam Sandlin and a son, Paul Sandlin. Also preceding him in death were brothers and sisters, Jessie Mae Sandlin Corbett, Joe Sandlin Jr., Lavon Sandlin, and Merle Sandlin Hutto.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Keith Sandlin and his wife Jena and George Sandlin, Jr. and his wife, Patricia, all of Lake Park, GA.; one sister, Jean Howell, Echols County, GA.; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 19th at the Lake Park Church of God.
Interment followed in Carter Cemetery near Statenville.
