Gerald Howard Dedge Sr, 77
Gerald Howard Dedge Sr, was granted eternal life on the 13th of June 2012. His final days were spent surrounded by his family, and in the wonderful care of Hospice. Gerald was born March 8, 1935 in Jasper, Florida to Joe and Inez Dedge, and grew up in Hamilton County. He was the Jasper High School star quarterback, and won numerous awards as a Future Farmer of America.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, he settled in Jacksonville, Florida and started in business building custom homes and remodelling. He became a highly demanded custom home builder, but missed his calling of psychologist and philosopher. Gerald always had a way of making you feel good about any problem you may be having even if you didn't want to. He was considered as part of the family to most of his clients, and showed generosity to many people in their hour of need, and would often remain anonymous. Gerald continued to give us all such courage and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Cheri Dedge; grandchildren; Lindsey and Sydney Dedge; brother and sister-in-law; A.L. and Gerri Dedge; sister's and their spouses; Lucille and Ronald Hodges; Nell and Earl Bols; sister-n-law Anne Dedge; numerous nieces and nephews; and loving companion of over 20 years Mary Ann Benton
A life celebration was held on Monday, June 18th at the West Jacksonville Advent Christian Church.
Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to: Community Hospice of Northeast Florida @communityhospice.com.
