Obituary

Gregory Doyal Taylor, 70, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on December 29, 1953 in Wilson, North Carolina the second of five children to Joseph E. Taylor and Hilda Reece Taylor. He spent his childhood in Cottage Grove, Tennessee, then moved with his family to Tallahassee, Florida in 1965, before ultimately settling Jasper, Florida in 1968. He is a 1972 graduate of Hamilton County High School.

In 1978, he married the former Elizabeth Braswell of Jasper and the two spent forty-six wonderful years together. Greg spent his entire career in the construction industry, beginning as an apprentice in the Millwright's Union. In 1992, he decided to go into business on his own and started Taylor Industrial Construction, Inc. Beginning with only a welding machine and an old pick-up truck, Greg would ultimately grow the company into a fully integrated industrial construction company with multiple locations and hundreds of employees. In 2018, Greg retired from Taylor Industrial to spend more time with his family and on his farm.

Greg was known for being an active and generous member of the Hamilton County community. While he happily donated both time and money to many civic causes, he was most passionate about youth sports in Hamilton County and their impact on young people.

Greg was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing, and taking care of his farm and animals. Pets held a special place in Greg's heart and he spent much time over the years tending to the family dogs, cats and farm animals.

Most importantly, Greg was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and always put the needs and wants of his family first. Nothing brought Greg greater joy than seeing his children and grandchildren flourish in life.

Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth B. Taylor; his two children, Gretchen Purvis (Payton Purvis, deceased), of Watkinsville and Dan Taylor (Holly) of Macon; his grandchildren, Emma Fordham, Chase Whitehorn, Ellie Grace Taylor, Annabelle Taylor, Hayley Taylor, Addy Purvis and Payton Purvis; his mother, Hilda Reece Taylor; his siblings, Joseph E. Taylor Jr. (Jacque Stokes Taylor), Pam Taylor Cook, Brett Allen Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph E. Taylor Sr., and his brother Edward Lee Taylor.

A funeral service to celebrate Greg's life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Jasper, Florida, on Sunday, February 18, at 2:30 p.m. There will be a time of visitation just before the service, starting at 1:30 p.m. After the service, the family will hold a private interment.
