Howard Jerome "Jerry" Stewart (AKA-Blinky), age74, of Jasper, FL. passed away unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, April 21, 2020. While his health has not been good for some time, his death has come as a shock to his family and friends.
Jerry was born on September 5, 1945 in Jasper, FL. to the late Howard and Gladys Stewart. In his last year of high school, Jerry joined the U.S. Army and was immediately sent to Vietnam. As most young men that had that experience, Jerry witnessed some bad things. Following an unfortunate shrapnel injury he was moved to a position in transport before advancing to Military Police Officer. He was honorably discharged in August of 1968 and returned to Jasper where he joined the Jasper Police Department as an officer until his retirement. Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper. He was preceded in death by his half sister, Sonya Hilliard.
Survivors include his brother, Harry Stewart; his step father, Henry Dennis Hand; two half brothers, Robert Hand and Thomas Hand; his half sister, Tammy Bain; nephews and niece, Scott Stewart, Michael Stewart and Shela Stallings; great nephews and nieces, Kyle, Matthew, Braxton, Nathan, Alan and Rachel.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery.
