Jaime Ortega, age 31, of Jennings, FL. passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. Jaime, a native of Naples, Florida moved to Hamilton County in 1989 from Immokalee. He was a graduate of Hamilton County High School. Following high school he joined the workforce in the farming industry working side by side with family and friends. Jaime had a winning personality and was loved by all that knew him. He was a loving father to his precious daughter Isabella. Following a devastating cancer diagnosis last year it was his heart's desire to fight and win his battle and so he fought the good fight and he and Isabella shared another ten months of life together. Jaime was preceded in death by his father, Guadalupe Ortega and his brother, Procoro Ortega.
Survivors include his daughter, Isabella Ortega, Statenville, GA.; his beloved mother, Pureza Ortega, Jennings, FL.; four brothers, Manuel Ortega (Manuela), Mexico, Guadalupe Ortega Jr. (Hope), Statenville, GA., Gavino Ortega (Kaitlyn), Lee, FL. and Ruben Ortega, Jennings, FL.; four sisters, Eloina Ortega, Jennings, FL., Nina Concepcion (Jose), Jennings, FL., Emilia Weldon (Michael), Valdosta, GA., and Maria Brown (Fletcher), Pinetta, FL.; his best friend, Steve Honeycutt; numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving is the mother of his daughter and his friend, Linda Mercer.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
