Obituary

James Brean Castleberry, affectionately known as "Tub" by his close friends and hunting buddies, departed this life on March 4, 2024. Born on June 10, 1966, James was the beloved son of Larry and Rosa Castleberry of Statenville, GA.

James, a country boy at heart, had an undeniable passion for the outdoors, finding great enjoyment being in the woods. He was an avid houndsman who loved hunting coon. He also enjoyed fishing. For James, spending time outdoors hunting and fishing wasn't just a pastime. It was a way of life; an opportunity to immerse himself in the beauty, the sounds and the smells of the woods and a chance to make lasting memories with friends and family.

In his final years, despite being homebound, James found endless happiness in spending quality time with his cherished grandchildren. His love shone brightest in his role as "Papa".  He took great pleasure in watching them grow and their laughter and presence filled his heart.

James was preceded in death by his father, Larry Castleberry, his grandparents, Bill "Son" and Dollie Hunter, and Steve and Clarissa Castleberry, and his infant son.  James is survived by his devoted wife, Christina Castleberry, his loving children: Jamie Castleberry (Chelsea) of Clyattville, GA, and Megan Hamblin (Blake) of Statenville, GA and his mother, Rosa Castleberry of Statenville, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind his brothers: Gary Castleberry (Monica) of Statenville, GA, and Joey Castleberry (Theresa) of Valdosta, GA, as well as his sisters-in-law, Susan Castleberry of Thomasville, GA, and Janice Touchton of Lake Park, GA; his grandchildren, Jaylee, Brynleigh, Dawson, River, and Easton; his nieces and nephews: Alexis Harnage (Jason), Brean Castleberry (Heather), Chelsie James (Hewitt), Dalton Castleberry (Kendyl), Dawson Neely, Jaycee Castleberry (Mario), Wells Cook, and Tatum Cook; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family will receive friends at a time of visitation on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 8, at 11 a.m. at Statenville Church of God in Statenville, GA. Interment will follow the service at Hebron Cemetery in Hamilton County, FL.
