James William Crews, age 88 years old, passed away at home on August 1, 2023 after an illness of some time. James was born on December 26, 1934 in McAlpin, Florida to the late Owen and Clyde Warren Crews. He married Dollie Harris Crews and the two were husband and wife for the next 60 years until his passing. James' career began when he joined the United States Army as a young man, faithfully serving his country. During his military career James was awarded several medals of accommodations; including 2 purple hearts and one bronze star. He was indeed a well-respected and decorated soldier. After his 22 years of military service, James retired from the Army and moved back home to Suwannee County where he worked at GoldKist for another 19 years until he retired altogether. James was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt.
His survivors include his beloved wife, Dollie Crews, his children: Pam (Tim) Clayton, Jamie (Rhoda) Crews, Kim (Craig) Cannon and Debbie (Troy) Engle; brother, Jerry Crews; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. James was predeceased by his parents, Owen and Clyde Crews and brother, Charles Crews.
A graveside service is planned for Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 10 am at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Live Oak, Florida with Leroy Dobbs officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Haven Hospice of Lake City, Florida, www.beyourhaven.org.
