James Franklin Deas, age 92, of Jennings, FL. passed from this life to the next on Saturday, November 9, 2019 at his home following an extended illness.
James Franklin was born in Jennings, FL. on December 15, 1926 to the late John Hall Deas and Mellie Alderman Deas. Growing up on the farm, times were sometimes difficult for the family but they worked hard and James who had become "Brother" to most everyone who knew him, came to love the land and all that it had to offer. He and his family became the first Hamilton County Farm Bureau "Farm Family of the Year". He was a very successful farmer and respected man in the community. In addition to farming, James Franklin served on the original board of what would become Occidental Chemical Co./Nutrien. He traveled with fellow board members to New York's Chase Manhatten Bank to secure the multi-million dollar loan to set up Occidental in Hamilton County. He also served on the old Hamilton County Bank Board of Directors for over twenty years. James Franklin and his wife Marian were faithful members of Burnham Christian Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He answered to the nicknames of Brother, Uncle Shorty and Boss Man but Daddy and Papa were his favorite. He did so love his family and wanted to leave them with a rich heritage and love for the Lord. He was successful in his efforts as even the youngest members of the family will always remember their Papa and all of his wisdom. One seldom saw James Franklin without his wife Marian at his side. The two were helpmates one to the other for over 66 years and their love and devotion to each other was timeless.
Survivors include his wife Marian Futch Deas; his two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Louie Goodin and Sylvia and Gary Cone, all of Jennings, FL..; one sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Mac McClain of Valdosta, GA.; six grandchildren, Heath Goodin, Hal Goodin, Holly Goodin, Dusty Cone, Danielle Cone Hall and Ethan Cone and ten great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burnham Christian Church Building Fund, 4520 NW CR 146, Jennings, FL. 32053.
