James Butler Hughes, age 94, of Clewiston, FL. passed away on May 28, 2022.
James was born in South Georgia on May 25, 1928 to the late James Butler Hughes and his wife Vashti Fouraker Hughes. He was married to Virginia Anderson Hughes for almost 60 years. James retired in 1990 from the USDA-Farm Service Agency where he was employed as the County Executive Director for Glades and Hendry Counties. He served his country in the United States Army. In his leisure time James enjoyed fishing, square dancing and spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Elbert Hughes and Joe Hughes as well as his sister, Idoma Hughes Ware.
Survivors include his wife Virginia Anderson Hughes; two daughters, Wanda Hughes of Clewiston and Gloria Hughes Ramsey of Bridge City, Texas; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Margaret Hughes of South Carolina; sisters-in-law, Jennie Lou Hughes (widow of Elbert) and Terry Hughes (Widow of Joe) of Jasper, FL.; two grandchildren, Devan Ramsey and Erin Ramsey both of Bridge City, Texas.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, Fl. with interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
