James Bernard "Jim" Coe, Sr. age 87, of Jasper, FL., passed away early on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, FL. following a brief illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 2, 2017 at the Jasper First Presbyterian Church in Jasper, FL.
Interment will be held on June 10, 2017 in Burkesville, Kentucky.
The Kentucky native was preceded in death by his parents, Escar and Betty Jane Irvin Coe. He was also preceded by the love of his life, Emily Jo Coe and a half-brother, Escar Coe, Jr.
Jim's personality was a combination of many characters. He had a dry sense of humor which left you scratching your head when you walked away wondering, did he mean what he just said or did he just say what he meant. He laughed often and loved much and in return was loved deeply by the many students he taught over the years. He moved to Jasper from Kentucky in 1960 at the urging of Dr. Wade Norris who was instrumental in getting him a job teaching and coaching. Coach Coe went on to work for the Hamilton County School System in the capacity of guidance counselor and administrator. Jasper was lucky to have him. Jim earned his Bachelor's Degree from Western Kentucky University and later received his Master's Degree through the University of Florida. He was always faithful to his Kentucky Wildcats though. Jim loved to play golf, watch western's on TV and eat, yes eat. Mr. Coe was a veteran of the United States Army and served his country honorably during the Korean conflict.
Jim was a longtime member of Jasper First Presbyterian Church.
