Obituary

James Horace McCall, III, age 71, passed away at home on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Born on August 12, 1953, in Jasper, Florida, James was the beloved son of James and Lafayette McCall. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and love for his family.

As a self-employed brick mason, James was a skilled craftsman who made significant contributions to the construction industry. Over the years, he worked with the Maintenance Department for the Hamilton County School Board, with Buddy McCall at McCall Construction, and honed his skills alongside JR Morrell in masonry. His dedication and talent were evident in every project he undertook.

A devout member of Divonia Baptist Church, in Hamilton County, FL, James attended services faithfully for as long as his health permitted and continued to watch from home when he could no longer attend. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through both challenges and triumphs.

James was a hardworking man, dedicating countless hours to his job, his yard, and his cherished vegetable garden. He took great pride in growing the finest greens, which he loved to share with family and friends. His love for gardening was matched only by his passion for fishing and spending quality time with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will last forever in their hearts.

James is survived by his best friend and wife, Wanda McCall; his son, Greg McCall of North Dakota; his daughters, Mitzee McCall of Jasper, Melissa Freeman (Anthony) of Atlanta, GA, Cindy Santerfeit (Tommy) of Live Oak, FL, and Mary Franklin of Live Oak. He also leaves behind his brother, Mike McCall (Sandy) of Jasper; his sister, Julia Cooper (Andy) of Jasper; and his cherished grandchildren: Kaitlin Register, Nicholas Johns, Samantha McDonald, Kandace Franklin, Brianna Santerfeit, Lindsay Self, London Nickerson, Gage Browning, Karmyn King, Addison Santerfeit, Braylin Santerfeit, Maddie Santerfeit, and Payton Santerfeit. James is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at a visitation on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Divonia Baptist Church, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
