James “Jim” Alton Streetman passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025, at Haven Hospice in Lake City, Florida. He was a lover of nature and a true friend to every animal he met.
Jim’s lifelong love for animals began in childhood. Growing up on a family farm surrounded by an orange grove, he learned early to appreciate animals and the beauty of nature. That passion stayed with him for the rest of his life; his dogs were more than pets—they were his family.
After graduating high school, Jim proudly served four years in the United States Navy. Following his service, he returned to Lakeland, Florida and began what would become a long and respected career as a telephone equipment installer. Starting with North Electric and eventually retiring from Sprint in 2005, he was known for his loyalty, strong work ethic, and dedication.
Upon retirement, Jim purchased 100 acres in McAlpin, Florida—a place that became the heart of his world. He knew every tree, bush, and plant on that land, walking the perimeter daily with his dogs at his side. The quietness, privacy, and natural beauty brought him deep joy. He became a familiar face in McAlpin and Live Oak, especially at local restaurants and veterinary clinics, where his love for animals was known by all.
Jim’s family meant everything to him, especially his parents. Equally important were his pets, each one cared for with compassion, devotion, and unwavering kindness. Every animal he ever owned was blessed to have him.
Survivors include his sister, Margaret Brooks (Cecil), and his sister, Judy Thomason (Jerry); along with his nieces and nephews Vincent Brooks, Cindy Graham, Kim Biggs, Jason Thomason, and Blake and Brandi Streetman. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mildred Streetman, and his brother, Gene Streetman.
Funeral services will be held at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home on December 31, 2025.Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM.
James Alton Streetman will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love of the outdoors, and his deep, loyal heart. His presence will be missed, but his legacy of kindness will continue in the hearts of those who knew him.
