Obituary

Janette Cowart, age 79, passed away at her home in Lee, Florida on June 8, 2022 at the age of 79.

Janette was a native of Kingsport, Tennessee born on September 9, 1942 and was one of ten children born to the late Fred and Iva Bell Taylor Cantrell. Sometime after she completed the 11th grade the family moved to Hamilton County, FL. where her father had secured work helping to build parts of what we know now as Interstate I-75. She attended her Senior year of school at Jasper High School. It was there that she would meet and marry the father of her two daughters and that is where her story really began. She had been one of ten children and she loved family and she was born a natural caregiver. She worked for many years at Madison Correctional Institution as a correctional officer but when her grandchildren started arriving, it was time to retire and be a grandmother. She wanted to be there for those babies so that they would know how very much she loved them. Contrary to how most women feel, Janette enjoyed cleaning house and she loved ironing. The children and grandchildren recall memories of her just going into the closet or drawers and pulling out clothes to iron, fold and put back when they thought the clothes were perfectly fine just like they were. She was always thinking of others and made a wonderful hostess making sure everyone had what they might need. She comforted in times of trouble and built loved ones up when they were low in spirit. She was a wonderful sister to her brothers and sisters and has nieces and nephews that love their Aunt Janette.

Survivors include her two daughters, Teressa Allen of Lee, FL. and Cindy Lessman and her husband Mike of Jasper, FL.; two brothers, Edward Cantrell (Mindy) of Jennings, FL. and Tony Cantrell (Susan) of Taylors, S.C.; two sisters, Tina Murphy of Campobello, S.C. and Debra Adams (Clarence) of Jennings, FL.; her three grandchildren, Whitney Tompkins (Von), Tiffany Horner (Michael) and McKayla Elgert (Jonathan); six great grandchildren, Hayden, Carson, Presley, Mason, Nathaniel and Wyatt. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 13, 2022 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL. with Bro. Timmy Dyke officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL.
