Jasper "Jay" Thomas Bridges III, 77, of Jasper, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice on May 27, 2026, following a lengthy illness.
Jay was born in Valdosta, Georgia, to the late Tom and Doris Bridges. A 1966 graduate of Hamilton County High School, he spent much of his life working in the timber industry as a landowner, logger, and timber purchaser.
Jay had a deep love for the outdoors and found great joy in fishing, hunting, and spending time with those he loved most. Some of his happiest memories were made on family trips to the beach and mountains, as well as unforgettable adventures to Alaska for fishing and to the Yukon and Nicaragua for hunting with family and dear friends. He was also an avid Florida Gators fan who loved attending games.
Above all, Jay cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Gloria Bridges; his son, JT Bridges IV; his daughter, Julie Bridges Henry (Craig) of Johns Creek, Georgia; and his beloved grandchildren, James Michael Henry and Grace Bridges Henry, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Bridges of Lake Park, Georgia; his brother-in-law, Jim Williams (Penne) of Lakeland, Florida; along with many cousins and lifelong friends who were truly like family to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Doris Bridges; his sister-in-law, Nonie Silcox; his aunts, Virginia Chandler, Marilyn Sabin, and Janice Dupree; and his cousin, Cindy Myddleton.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the faithful caregivers and friends who provided love, support, and companionship during Jay’s final months: Rhonda and Steve Livingston, Edgar and Mikayla Perez, and Dahlia Perez. Their kindness and care will always be remembered.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jasper, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Jasper.
Jay will be remembered for his love of family, his generous spirit, and the many memories he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
