Joe Wheeler Rowell, age 80, of Valdosta, GA., passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta. Mr. Rowell was born in Russellville, Alabama to the late Wheeler and Bonnie Rowell. He was a well known barber in South Georgia, operating up to as many as five barbershops at one time. Many will recall a buzz at Joe's Barber Shop where you might have to take a number on many Saturdays. The "Wildcat Barber" as he is fondly remembered was an avid Valdosta Wildcat fan and when he was not bragging to you about his Wildcats, he was telling you an Alabama Crimson Tide story. Mr. Rowell proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Rowell.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Dale Rowell and his wife, Kimela of Valdosta, Ga. and Kim Lamar Rowell of Central America; one daughter, Rita Ledlow and her husband Dr. Roger Ledlow of Tallahassee, FL.; one brother, Bob Rowell and his wife Tid, Valdosta, Ga.; six grandchildren, Dakota, Kristen, Lauren, Catherine, Joe Wheeler and Robert Ray; his niece, Rhonda Barr and her husband Richard of Valdosta.

Memorial services were held Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Central Avenue Church of Christ in Valdosta.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Langdale Hospice House, 2263 Pineview Dr., Valdosta, GA. 31602.

A private interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.
