IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Avery
Setzer
August 11, 1952 – February 4, 2019
John Avery Setzer, age 66, of Jasper, FL. passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 at Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, FL. following a lengthy illness.
John was born in Lenoir, North Carolina on August 11, 1952 to the late Thomas J.C. Setzer and Mary Delania Hood Setzer. John joined the U.S. Navy and served his country during a controversial time but he proudly stood at ready with the other troops during the Vietnam Era. He was an electronics technician and credited his knowledge of electronics to his time in the military. John also learned the love of travel from his time in service and favored Spain as one of his favorite destinations. He enjoyed building model airplanes and cars, photography and cooking. John was not always a believer in Christ but was afforded the gift of time to come to a full knowledge and understanding. While still rough around the edges, John spent the last seven years sharing his love and understanding of the Lord. He served as Chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8095 in Jasper, FL. before his health declined. John was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Setzer; a sister, Nancy Goodrich; brother-in-law, Emmett Hutto; a nephew, Christopher Hutto; and a great niece, Amanda Collins.
Survivors include his two sisters, Linda Hutto, Jasper, FL. and Sandra Coulombe (Phillip), Lewiston, Maine.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Jasper, FL. with his nephew, Pastor Roger Hutto officiating.
