IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John David
Sowell, Sr.
May 4, 1957 – November 15, 2020
John David Sowell, Sr., age 63, of Jasper, FL. passed away early Sunday morning, November 15, 2020 at his home following a lengthy illness.
David was born in Valdosta, GA. on May 4, 1957 to the late George (Sr.) and Mabel Bass Sowell. He was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County. David was gifted with the ability to string together many talents and with those gifts he helped many people. He had a unique ability to design and fabricate projects and so it was very natural that neighbors and people in the community would drop by and have him build or weld things for them. Before his health declined, he owned and operated L & D Nursery and was successful, as his green thumb was another God given talent. As long as he was able, David was a member of the John M. Caldwell Masonic Lodge # 70.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Linda Kirby Sowell; his son and daughter-in-law, John (Jr.) and Mandy Sowell of Jasper; his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and David Rudy also of Jasper; one brother, George Sowell Jr. of Pensacola, FL.; his grandson Brian "Rick" Brown; and his many beloved barnyard animals.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home in Jasper, FL.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
By request, David will be cremated following the service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation 3242 Parkside Center Circle, Tampa, FL. 33619-0907.
