Joseph Kenyon "Ken" Malpas, age 74, of Flagler Beach, FL. passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Palm Coast following a lengthy illness. Ken was a native of Jasper, FL. born March 16, 1940 to the late Joseph Kenyon and Ann Caldwell Malpas. He loved Jasper and found himself reflecting often on his rich heritage which included his great, great, great, great grandmother a pioneer child born in Hamilton County and his great, great grandfather founder of The Jasper News. He was a graduate of Jasper High School "Class of 1958". He went on to graduate from North Florida Junior College and Georgia Southern University. Following college he served his country in the United States Army and was in Vietnam with the American Red Cross. Ken was a former school teacher in Augusta, Georgia and Jasper, FL. before moving on to live out his dream job as a horticulturist. He worked hard at his craft and was co-owner and operator of Gospel Gardens a successful nursery and landscaping business. In addition to his green thumb, Ken was blessed with a natural talent for playing the piano. He will be remembered for these gifts and more. Ken was a people person, he enjoyed meeting new people and his friendships lasted a lifetime.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Joseph Gregory Sapp.
Surviving family include: Bill Campenella, Sally and Joe Walter Sapp, Lynn Sapp, Dan Gallagher; Aunt Jeri Brooke and Uncle Carlton Caldwell; numerous cousins and a host of friends.
Graveside services were held on Monday, August 18, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, FL. with Rev. Roger Hutto officiating.
