IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Calvin
Smith
March 11, 1933 – April 26, 2019
Joseph Calvin Smith, age 86, of Jasper, FL. passed away on Friday, April 26, 2019 at home under the care of Haven Hospice following a brief illness.
Joseph was born in Statenville, GA. on March 11, 1933 to the late Frank and Mary Hunter Smith. As a young man he joined the United States Navy and served his country for over 20 years working hard to move up in rank and was promoted to Chief Warrant Office-2 before retirement in 1971. He was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations. At least four of those years were served in a foreign country/at sea. Upon retirement he returned to Hamilton County and opened Smith Repair and Air Conditioning Service. As luck would have it, the building was large enough to house a second business where he operated a fish market with bait and tackle shop. When he was not at work, he enjoyed some fishing and hunting of his own. Joseph was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8095. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Smith and Mary Hunter Smith Norton; a daughter, Dianne Moreno-Lacalle, a brother, Charles Smith and sisters, Nell Walker and Lillian Bass. He was also preceded by wife, Adelaida "Dely" Smith.
The Lord was good to Joseph and blessed him with another helpmate in life his beloved wife, Maria "Remy" Smith; three daughters, Kay Costanza, Lynn Smith and Tammie Viger; one brother, James Smith; one sister, Shirley Baisden; nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 2, 2019 in the chapel of Harry T. Reid Funeral Home with military honors and Pastor Danny Henderson officiating.
