Obituary

Josephine L. Bass, age 64 of Statenville, GA, passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2023.  Jo was born in Hamilton County, FL on September 20, 1958 to the late C.H. and Hazel (Pollock) Lee.  Jo grew up in Jennings, FL and lived there until 1980 when she married the love of her life, Darryl Bass.  After they were married, Jo moved to Statenville, GA where she lived the rest of her life until her passing.  Jo was a master seamstress.  She worked at Levi Strauss manufacturing plant in Valdosta, GA for over twenty years.  When the plant closed in the early 2000's, Jo attended Valdosta Technical College where she obtained her AA degree in accounting.  Jo retired to stay home to care for her grandchildren while her daughters completed their education.  In her spare time, Jo enjoyed doing various arts and crafts.  Jo's love for sewing and crafting was surpassed only by her abundant love for her family.  She so adored caring for her grandchildren and looked forward to their family vacations every summer.  Jo was a faithful member of Statenville Methodist Church.

Survivors include her dearly loved husband of 43 years, Darryl Bass.  Her two adoring daughter and sons-in-laws:  Brianne and Barry Deas of Jennings, FL and Casey and Shawn Corbitt of Statenville, GA.  She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren:  Ashton Deas, Annalyse Deas of Jennings, FL, Tyler Tucker, Ben Corbitt and Caitlin Hunter of Statenville, GA, Brianna and Dylan Graddy of Lakeland, GA and one great-granddaughter, Adelia Graddy.  She leaves behind her two brothers:  Wendell (Darlene) Lee, Lake Park, GA and Raymond Lee, Valdosta, GA.  Her mother-in-law, Lillian Barfield of Statenville, GA, brothers-in-law, Ricky (Terri) Bass, Statenville, GA, and Keith (Sissie) Bass, Valdosta, GA and sister-in-law Gwen (Alvin) Hammock, Pinetta, FL.  She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Jo was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Jack Barfield, sisters and brothers-in laws, Linda Harrell, William and Lillie Belle Strickland, Marie Lee, Michael and Debbie Lee, and Bobbie Lee.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023 at Harry T. Reid Funeral Home from 5-7 pm.  A funeral service will be held at Statenville Methodist Church on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11 am.  She will be laid to rest at Statenville Cemetery.
