IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Whilden
Staten
January 12, 1929 – October 26, 2020
Joyce Whilden Staten, age 91, of Statenville, GA passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020, at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, GA.
Joyce was born on January 12, 1929, in Stockton, GA to the late Harley and Malissa Dukes Whilden. Joyce always had a kind and generous spirit. She loved cooking, being outdoors, gardening, riding her golf cart, and spending time with her family, as well as her beloved cat, Smokey. She embraced the family God gave her and provided for them all of her days; she was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. Some of the last memories her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have of her are of her leading the way at the local cane maze at full speed. She was no slacker, even at the age of 91. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Lavon Staten (2000), her daughter Tammy Sabrina (1986), and her son, Ronald Lavon (2018). Joyce was an active member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Jennings, FL.
Survivors include her two daughters, Joy Routt of Georgetown, Texas, and Cindy Zeigler (Leon) of Statenville, GA; daughter-in-law, Sandy Staten; ten grandchildren, Angela Williams, Heather Bushaw, Corey Williams, Duffy Hummel, Dustin Williams, Sarah Murray, Holly Smith, Brandi Harvey (Will), Jami Zeigler (Jenna) and Carmen Zeigler (Mitch); and 22 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Staten Cemetery in Echols County, GA with Elder Don Gilbert officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Primitive Baptist Church C/O Mike Selph 3865 NW CR 146, Jennings, FL 32053, or to Staten Cemetery Fund 314 Strickland Road, Lake Park, GA 31636 or via Venmo @Staten-Cemetery.
