Mrs. Juda Elizabeth Wade Pennington, 92, of Jasper passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper, following an illness of several months. She was born September 3, 1918, in Anniston, Alabama to Thomas Eugene Wade and Nancy Elizabeth Sparks Wade. She lived all her adult life in Jasper, raising her family and helping to run the family farm, and was retired from the Hamilton County School System. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jasper.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, W. W. (Billy) Pennington of Jasper in 1999, step-daughter Jeanne Bryan Kennedy, and grandson Jeb Kennedy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Aubrey Wade, Eugene Wade, Leonard Wade, and Morgan Wade of Anniston, Alabama, and five sisters, Nellie Wade, Minnie Heitt of Colewater, Alabama, Emma Roberson of Eastaboga, Alabama, Gloria Ferrara of Rochester, New York, and Lillian Kreiser of Middletown, Pennsylvania.
She leaves behind her beautiful family as her legacy. She is survived by six children, Billy Pennington and his wife Barbara, of Birmingham, Alabama, James E. Pennington, D.V.M. and his wife Kathryn, of Melrose, George Patton Pennington, M.D., Ph.D. and his wife Jeannie of Valdosta, Robert Pennington of Jacksonville, Juda Lois Pennington and husband Rick Culbreath of Orlando, and Katherine Pennington and husband Terry Straub of Tallahassee; step-son Bill Bryan and wife Marian of Mill Spring, North Carolina; and son-in-law Jim Kennedy of Atlanta, Georgia.
She also leaves 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; Anne Pennington (Paul Stromberg) and sons Jackson and Quinn Stromberg, of Ashburn, VA; Jonathan Pennington (Kathryn) and son Finis and daughter Amelia Pennington, of Birmingham, Alabama; Christina Kozloff Peterson (Luke) and daughters Tessa and Piper, of Seattle, Washington; Paige Windahl (Marc) and son Cooper, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; Erin Stalgren (Steve) and daughter Shea and son Carsten of Granby, Colorado; Ross Bryan (Mary) and daughter Ella of New Orleans, Louisiana; George Lavasse (Mary) of Astoria, NY; James Pennington (Heather) of Coralville, Iowa ; Brooke Pennington of Gainesville; Patton Pennington of Macon, Georgia; Kate Pennington of Valdosta; Elizabeth Schardt of Destin; Melissa Schardt of Tallahasssee; Jay Kennedy of Atlanta; and Jeffrey Kennedy of Gainesville, Georgia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 14th at the First United Methodist Church in Jasper, with Reverend Charles Courtoy officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper.
