IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kevin Lindley
Murphy
December 14, 1961 – October 11, 2023
Kevin Lindley Murphy, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on October 11, 2023, at the age of 61, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and cherished memories.
Born on December 14, 1961, in Valdosta, GA, Kevin was the son of Edward Arthur Murphy and Mildred Selph Murphy. Kevin grew up in Jennings, FL and from a young age, his good nature and zest for life were evident. Kevin possessed a remarkable sense of humor, and he had a talent for lightening the mood with his witty jokes and playfulness. He was also very athletic. He spent lots of time playing baseball, a sport in which he excelled. In high school, Kevin played on the Hamilton County Trojans baseball team as the pitcher. In 1978 they went to the state championships and were in the final four. As Clay Goolsby once remarked, "He could sure sling a baseball."
After graduating from Hamilton County High School in 1980, Kevin went on to obtain certification in corrections and worked as a Correctional Officer with the Department of Corrections in Hamilton County, FL and in Madison County, FL. After 25 years of service, he retired and found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life. His love for listening to the radio was a constant source of entertainment. Every Saturday, he could be found with a smile on his face, tuned in to the Gator game, a cherished ritual that brought him much happiness.
Beyond his love for sports and laughter, Kevin was quite a marksman. His sharpshooting skills were unmatched, especially when he was out in the fields, enjoying his passion for shooting dove.
While Kevin did enjoy so many moments with friends and family, creating lasting memories, he also enjoyed his solitude, particularly when he drove around on the farm. Kevin had several stops he made along the way of his daily drive, but when he got to where his son, Alex, was working, if the task looked tough, he drove on by, but if not, he'd get out, turn over his five-gallon bucket and sit a while, watching Alex work. Then, the light of his life, Lynlee, would run out to see "Papa K" and to find his Little Debbie cakes. She couldn't help but to get mad when she found out he ate them all.
Kevin is survived by his son, Kevin "Alex" Murphy (Emily) of Jennings; his mother, Mildred Selph Murphy of Jennings; his brothers: Jimmy Murphy (Debbie) of Jennings, FL and Stanley Murphy (Kathleen) of Tampa, FL; his sister, Brenda Evans (Bob) of Jennings, FL; his granddaughter, Lynlee; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
Kevin is preceded in death by his father, Edward Arthur Murphy of Jennings, FL.
