Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Frank Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2024, at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida, at the age of 96. Born on October 18, 1928, in Wheaton, Illinois, Lawrence's life was marked by unwavering devotion to his country, family, and faith.

Lawrence graduated from Ft. Lauderdale High School in 1947 where he was a state champion pole vaulter.

A proud Korean War veteran, Lawrence served honorably as a sergeant in the United States Army. Following his military service, he earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Geology from Florida State University. That was where he met the love of his life, Imogene Williams. Together, Lawrence and Imogene shared 68 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, resilience, and faith.

Lawrence dedicated over 40 years of his career to Occidental Chemical Company as a geologist, where his commitment and integrity left a lasting impact. A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Lake City, he found strength in his faith and his community.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Imogene, his loving son Greg and daughter-in-law Mary Ann, and his treasured grandchildren, Alison and Austin. He also leaves behind a special cousin, Joyce Croft, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.  Lawrence was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Frances Miller, and his sisters, Julia Nance, Betty Johnson, and Joy Holiday.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday, November 1st, from 5-7 PM at Gateway Funeral Home in Lake City, Florida. Funeral services will follow on Saturday, November 2nd, at 11 AM at Gateway Funeral Home in Lake City. An informal gathering will be held prior to the funeral from 10:00 - 10:45 AM. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jasper, Florida.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Lake City,182 NE Justice St.,Lake City FL 32055 or the Lake City Humane Society,1392 NW Shelter Glen, Lake City FL 32055. In addition, contributions to the UF Health TraumaOne Fund may be sent to 655 West 8th St, Jacksonville FL 32209 in memory of Lawrence.

Lawrence's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived.
