Leon Curtis McGauley, age 68, of Jasper, FL. passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011 at his home. Surrounded by the people that loved him, Leon was granted his last wish when he was able to come home to Jasper one last time. Hamilton County was the place he wanted to be. Leon was born at Genoa in Hamilton County on October 18, 1942 to Hansford Leigh and Edna Eloise Mercer McGauley. He was the owner/operator of Mac's Auto Repair in Jasper and served on the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners for 16 years. When Leon was not working he loved to spend his time at his place at Suwannee with a fishing rod in hand. He devoted time to the Shriners and was a member of the John M. Caldwell Masonic Lodge. Mr. McGauley was a member of Harvest Fellowship. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Raymond, Billy and Walter "Buddy" McGauley.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Gloria McDonald McGauley; one son, Douglas Leigh McGauley (Karen Hunter); and one daughter, Karen Raishon Johns, all of Jasper; two brothers, James McGauley, Jacksonville, FL. and Carl McGauley, Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two sisters, Jean Fralick, Jasper, FL. and Lana Wisenbaker, Jennings, FL.; two beautiful granddaughters whom he loved with all his heart, Ashleigh McGauley Allen and Megan Amber Johns.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Harvest Fellowship in Jasper with Pastor Jerry Thomason officiating, assisted by Bro. Jimmy Knight. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery.
