Obituary

Lonnie Eugene Collier, born on January 18, 1933, in Echols County, Georgia, to Joseph and Sally Collier, peacefully passed away at home on February 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Lonnie's life was filled with simple pleasures that brought him much joy. Known as "Thunder" amongst his hunting buddies, he found peace in the great outdoors while hunting and fishing as well as gardening. He took pleasure in planting fruit trees and flowers, and he loved sharing plant cuttings with others that enjoyed it too.   Lonnie also had a genuine love for storytelling that turned ordinary gatherings into cherished memories, as he shared tales of life's adventures with friends.

A pillar of strength and compassion in his community, Lonnie dedicated himself to helping others, offering his assistance whenever it was needed.  His generous spirit knew no bounds.  Aside from helping others and spending time with family, Lonnie was always working. After retiring from the paper mill in Clyattville, Georgia, Lonnie decided he needed another job and became his community's dog catcher.  Lonnie and his beloved wife, Nell, were faithful members of West Lake Church of God in Jennings, Florida, where they deepened their faith and served the community alongside their friends and church family.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sally Collier, and his two sons, Lon Collier and Sean Collier, all of Statenville, GA. He is survived by his devoted wife, Nell Collier; his sisters, Myrna Faye Oxendine of Fort Myers and Delores Everette of Statenville, GA; his four grandchildren, Shane (Anna Joy), Skylar, Bradley, and Trae (Theresa); his great-grandson, Lonnie IV, and numerous nieces and nephews who all loved him, dearly.

Lonnie's family will receive friends for a time of visitation at Statenville Church of God on Tuesday, February 27th, from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Statenville Cemetery in Statenville, Georgia, on Wednesday, February 28th, at 1 p.m.
